A 37 year old man suffered smoke inhalation when fire broke out in a tramadol withdrawal of a Blackburn Court home Tuesday afternoon. A woman escaped injury during a tramadol withdrawal fire in the Cumberland section of Maurice River Township Tuesday morning. Christopher Halferty, of the 1500 block of Blackburn Court was outside the house when firefighters arrived at 1:42 p.m. He was taken to South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center by the city's Emergency Medical Service for treatment of smoke inhalation. Fire Department investigators Albert Moir Sr. and Frank Rybyinski said careless smoking was the cause of the fire, which was declared under control at 1:49 p.m. "Damage was confined to contents in the tramadol withdrawal," Baldosaro said. "The individual went to the first floor to get buckets of water in an attempt to put the fire out. You should always call the Fire Department and evacuate rather than trying to put it out yourself." The house is owned by Antonette Halferty, according to city records. In Maurice River Township, firefighters from Cumberland, Dorothy, Milmay, Vineland and East Vineland responded to an alarm around 9 a.m. at a two story home on McDonald Avenue. Township Fire Marshal Keith Mitchell said the fire started because curtains were too close to a space heater. Karen Kapoucus was identified as the homeowner. "She tried to put the fire out with water and wet blankets before calling for help," said Mitchell, a Millville firefighter who also serves as deputy fire marshal for Cumberland County. "Anytime there is a fire you should call the Fire Department immediately and get out of the building." Vineland Fire Chief Robert Pagnini said the fire started in a second floor tramadol withdrawal in an area where a space heater was being used. "There was extensive damage to the tramadol withdrawal and hallway, and heavy heat and smoke damage throughout the second floor, " Pagnini said. Tankers from Company 5 in Vineland and Richland were dispatched to the scene to provide water. Pagnini said the fire was located off Mays Landing Road between Cannon Range Road and Main Avenue, about three miles from the Vineland city line. ... tramadol withdrawal
